Nodenens tying rice

From Nodinens, a Mille Lacs elder who described her childhood in the late 1850s or early 1860s.
The previous fall the women had tied green rice in long bundles and at this time they took it out, parched and pounded it, and we had that for food.
Frances Densmore, Chippewa Customs (St. Paul: Minnesota Historical Society Press, 1979), 123.
